The Lanesborough, London

I did a hotel inspection of this grand hotel in October 2018 with my fellow travel agents, after we completed inspections of the beautiful Hotel Le Bristol Paris and the Chateau Saint-Martin Spa in Vence. The life of a travel agent …

We flew from Nice to London City Airport and the transfer to hotel was about 45 minutes. A lot of people don’t know about the convenience of this airport and I try to recommend it as much as possible. Clearing customs was seamless and the whole process from the time we got off the plane to clearing customs took about 15-20 minutes.

The Lanesborough was awarded No. 1 Hotel in London in the Travel + Leisure World’s Best Awards.

It’s on the doorstep of Hyde Park, a 10 minute stroll to Buckingham Palace and just a short walk from Harrods and London’s most exclusive shopping district, Sloane Street and Knightsbridge, this luxury mansion has undergone an inspired renovation.

The hotel is home to 93 luxurious suites and bedrooms, Michelin-starred Celeste Restaurant, the vibrant Library Bar and Garden Room and the magnificent Lanesborough Club and Spa. The Spa is open to the public and membership is GBP8000 per year.

The hotel was built in the 18th century and was initially a country residence. It became St George’s Hospital for 100 years, was abandoned in the 1980s and eventually became a hotel. It was closed in 2013 for complete refurbishment and re-opened in August 2015. The Lanesborough has been managed by the Oetker Collection since 2014.

The hotel has 450 staff and each room has a butler service. The butler will assist with unpacking, packing, taking dogs for a walk, organising kids parties, movie sessions with popcorn and even go shopping with you if requested, to keep you company. They provide lots of small touches to make your stay memorable.

My room was an Executive Junior Suite with prices ranging from GBP900 to GBP1400 per night depending on the season. While we were there, the hotel had a 95% occupancy rate and they have many repeat guests.

We had dinner and breakfast at the beautiful Celeste Restaurant. I decided to be brave and finally try my first snails. To be honest, I found it difficult and doubt I’ll ever venture there again!

On the morning of 12 October, we undertook a Panoramic Tour of London with Queen of Clubs Lifestyle Luxury Services Ltd. It was a fun, professional tour and we were provided with an overview of London other than all the usual tourist attractions. Highlight was the Changing of the Guards.
