If you’ve been planning a trip to beautiful Phi Phi Island in Thailand and were intending to include the iconic Maya Bay in your itinerary of “Must Do’s”, sadly Maya Bay is now closed indefinitely to the public after sustaining severe damage to over-tourism.
The stunningly beautiful bay which is surrounded by azure waters and sheltered by towering limestone cliffs, was made famous by the movie “The Beach” which starred Leonardo DiCaprio. It’s located on Koh Phi Phi Le just south of Koh Phi Phi Don.
From the image below, you can see why – and at times it would get even more crowded. The closure is aimed at allowing it to recover. Fingers crossed!
