GETTING AROUND

Where would we be without the invention of the wheel? Have you ever thought about other people’s modes of transport?

We generally rely on automobiles to get us around and help us with our daily activities, along with motorbikes and bicycles – and maybe even shopping trolleys! In many parts of the world though, it can be anything from rickshaws, to camels, to carts and elephants. In some societies, the only way to get around is still by foot.

During early civilisation, settlements were usually built along rivers and waterways as boats were often the only form of transport. As settlements grew, it became necessary to develop other means to get from once place to another. And so it all began …
